Safe Guarding Policy

The Holiday Tutor
Date of policy: 16/04/2025
Review date: 31/04/2026

1. Purpose and Commitment
At The Holiday Tutor, I am fully committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all children I work with. This policy outlines how I, as the sole tutor, ensure that children are protected from harm during all face-to-face tutoring sessions.

2. Scope of the Policy
This policy applies to all tutoring services provided by The Holiday Tutor to children under the age of 18, delivered exclusively in person.

3. My Responsibilities
As the sole tutor and owner of The Holiday Tutor, I am responsible for:
•    Creating a safe and respectful learning environment.
•    Being alert to signs of abuse or neglect.
•    Responding appropriately to safeguarding concerns.
•    Keeping my safeguarding knowledge up to date.

4. Safeguarding Principles
I work in accordance with these core safeguarding principles:
•    The welfare of the child is paramount.
•    All children, regardless of age, gender, ethnicity, or ability, have the right to be protected.
•    Concerns will be taken seriously and responded to appropriately.

5. Safer Practice and Conduct
I follow these practices to ensure a safe environment:
•    I hold an enhanced DBS check.
•    I attend annual safeguarding training.
•    I communicate respectfully and professionally with children and their families.
•    I always tutor in settings where a parent or responsible adult is nearby or aware of the session.
•    I maintain clear professional boundaries at all times.
•    I avoid physical contact and ensure all interactions are appropriate and respectful.

6. Recognising and Responding to Concerns
If I become concerned that a child is at risk of harm:
1.    I will listen calmly and take any disclosure seriously.
2.    I will record the concern accurately, using the child’s own words when possible.
3.    I will contact the appropriate local safeguarding authority or services for advice or to report the concern.
4.    I will call 999 if I believe the child is in immediate danger.

7. Concerns About the Tutor
At The Holiday Tutor, I am committed to upholding the highest standards of professional conduct and child safety. If a parent, guardian, or child has a concern or complaint about my behaviour or conduct, I encourage them to raise it promptly.
Steps to take if you have a concern:
1.    Raise it directly with me (if you feel comfortable doing so) to allow for an open and respectful resolution.
